Today I wanted to talk about 10 common habits of highly successful people.
I’m obsessed with studying successful people. What is it about them that makes them successful?
Some people just seem to achieve all their goals–effortlessly.
Is it luck?
Are they just amazing?
Chances are, they’ve developed some killer habits over the years that have lead to their massive success.
Let’s jump into the 10 habits of successful people.
Habits of Successful People #1: Wake up early
The world’s most successful people have specific morning routines and wake up before the rest of the world.
I am obsessed with my morning routine and got so many questions about it I did a whole other blog about it.
Wanna learn more about creating a killer morning routine? I got you covered =)

One of my tricks is to put on my headphones and listen to a motivational video as I’m getting out of bed. It always puts me in the right state of mind.
Habits of Successful People #2: Set Goals and Write Them Down
I remember learning in college about a Harvard MBA study. The study found that the 3% of graduates who had written down their goals earned 10 times more than the other 97% who didn’t only 10 years after graduation.
That motivated me to start writing down my goals =)
That year (I think it was sophomore or junior year) I wrote down some crazy stuff that’s happened since:
- Study abroad (lived in Kenya the following year and got 18 A+ credits toward my major)
- Get my Masters (graduated with my MSW from the George Warren School of Social Work)
- Learn how to salsa dance (ended up teaching it too and had a freaking blast)
You get the picture. Ever since I’ve had clearly defined and written goals and it is WILD to go back and read things that have happened.
Create goals and write them down.
I’ve learned a ton about goal setting from the master, Tony Robbins.
Habits of Successful People #3: Workout
You might not know my first business was actually in fitness…I played volleyball for 10 years and was a fitness instructor.
Yet I still don’t love working out and rarely feel ‘motivated’ to workout.
I do it anyway because I love how I feel when I’m done and I know that when I workout I have more energy, mental clarity, and strength, which will help me to be a better mom and entrepreneur.
A trick that’s helped me lately is to wake up EARLY (5 am) and immediately listen to a motivational video as I get ready to workout first thing.
I’m done by 6 am before life has the ability to ‘get in the way’, which always happens if I put off my workout until later.
Try it =)
Habits of Successful People #4: Meditate
I always felt weird about meditating. I’m goal oriented (obvi) and sitting still seemed like a waste of time.
But I kept hearing about the benefits and more and more of my mentors shared how it was benefiting them.
So I tried it.
I think the best benefit for me is just the mental clarity that comes from being still. I get some awesome ideas during that time.
If you’re brand new, there are some great apps that can guide you through the meditation.

This guided one from Tony Robbins is one of my faves.
Habits of Successful People #5: Prioritize
Successful people know how to keep the main thing the main thing. They focus on the needle movers–the few tasks that will greatly impact your bottom line.
Here’s a tip:
- Do a massive brain dump of all the things that need to get done in your business.
- Circle all the things you can delegate to someone else.
- Star the few things that will either bring you more revenue right away or help you build your email list.
Everything else? It’s busy work and can wait. You don’t need to update your website for the millionth time or order business cards.
Get real work done and prioritize =)

Habits of Successful People #6: Learn/Grow Continuously
“Your income will be a direct reflection of your level of personal growth.”
I wish I could remember who said that–but I heard it in my early 20s and decided growth wouldn’t be optional.
Every year I uplevel.
I attend new events (upcoming it’s HeartCore Leadership and Business Mastery).
I invest in coaches who will push me.
I read and listen to audiobooks daily.
I heard Tony Robbins say that you’re either growing or you’re dying and it’s true.
Choose to pursue growth on a continual basis.
One of my fave books is John Maxwell’s Intentional Growth. In this video, he shares his laws of growth.
Habits of Successful People #7: Surround Themselves with Positivity
The most successful people know that they’re the sum of the 5 people they’re closest to.
Take a look at your inner circle. Are they where you aspire to be?
If not, it’s time to make new friends.
Did you know Will Smith posts short motivational videos on Instagram and Youtube? I love them. This one does have a few inappropriate words in them so if you have littles near you beware =)
Habits of Successful People #8: Minimize Distractions
We live in a world that is FULL of distractions.
Social media, email, text messages…
A life where you can be instantly connected to the world through your phone.
If you’re not careful, you’ll end up wasting a ton of time. Every time you hear your phone ding you lose your focus and those minutes of lost focus add up to tons of wasted hours every day.
The most successful people in the world have 24 hours in a day, the same as you.
They’ve learned how to minimize distractions.
You can too!
What helps me minimize distractions:
- Turn off all notifications on your phone and keep it in another room while you’re working.
- Close out of all other browsers while working
- Set a timer for an hour and focus on one thing for that entire hour. Then get up when the timer goes off, move around, and repeat.

Habits of Successful People #9: Unplug
I make sure all my clients have entire days where they’re unplugged. If you don’t take at least a day off every week, it’s so easy to get burned out.
I know you’re a goal driven, focused girl with big things to do! But having a day off will help you re-energize and have even more focus when you come back.
Just trust me on this one =)
In this video, Brendon Burchard will share the secrets to unplugging.
Habits of Successful People #10: Track/Measure
In the Compound Effect, Darren Hardy says,
“All winners are trackers”.
Whatever it is that you want to improve, start tracking it.
What you measure you improve upon.
In our business, we track:
- Income
- Expenses
- Profit
- Email list #
- Traffic
- FB group numbers
- IG followers
- FB page
- Webinar conversion rate
- Cost per lead
There’s probably more =) But start with the core things you want to grow.
Woot! I know that’s a lot of habits. What I suggest you do is pick ONE that you want to start right away.
Master that one.
Then a month later, pick your next habit and master it.
Before you know it, you’ll be on your way to having wildly successful habits which will help you create an insanely impactful business.
Question: Do you have any of these habits? Which one will you start with?
